Job Title: Independent Chair of Regulatory Governance Sub-Group
Salary: Voluntary (paid expenses)
Contract: Voluntary
Location: Hybrid
Application Deadline: Monday 30 November 2026
Job Description
UKCP is looking for an Independent Chair of a sub-group of its Governance Working Group which will look into the governance arrangements of UKCP’s regulatory functions.
This will be for 6 months with a time commitment of around one half-day meeting per month, allowing a further two days per month for agenda preparation and reviewing drafts.
We are looking for an independent individual (i.e. not a UKCP registrant or member) to lead the sub-group. They will bring knowledge and expertise in regulation and governance, experience in chairing committees or boards, and the ability to lead with tact and diplomacy. The successful candidate will demonstrate a track record of bringing groups with competing priorities and ideas to a consensus.
UKCP holds a Professional Standards Authority-accredited register of psychotherapists and psychotherapeutic counsellors. It accredits education and training programmes, issues a Code of Ethics which registrants must abide by, sets CPD requirements, and deals with complaints against registrants.
UKCP is conducting a root and branch review of its governance arrangements, and the sub-group will look into the specific arrangements for the governance of regulation, including the committee structure, the composition of committees and their terms of reference, safeguards against regulatory capture, and any changes needed to UKCP’s governing documents.
The sub-group will produce a report making recommendations to the main Governance Working Group.
