As a member of the Institute of Regulation, you are invited to join this session which is available to all members – affiliate, corporate and individual.
Held under the Chatham House rule, we invite you to join this online workshop to explore approaches to understanding, monitoring for and preventing regulatory capture. The session will blend updates on research in the field and time for practical discussion on the experiences of regulators.
‘Regulatory capture’ refers to undue and harmful influence of special interests - for example, regulated entities on regulators. Regulatory capture matters because it can undermine the effectiveness of regulators’ work and undermine public confidence in them and indeed in regulation itself.
This 90 minute online working will include the opportunity to hear the latest work from Dr. Eva Heims, public policy expert from University of York and a leading academic in the area of regulatory capture. The session will be hosted by Michael Hanton, deputy chief regulator Ofqual and Institute of Regulation Director.
With regulators under renewed scrutiny and pressure, the Institute of Regulation is hosting this session, an opportunity for regulatory professionals to review regulatory capture, learn and share experiences together.
This session is likely to appeal to regulatory professionals, interested to learn how to detect and prevent undue influence of regulated entities on regulators.
