The Solicitors Regulation Authority (SRA) is a legal services regulator that sets and maintains standards for more than 200,000 solicitors and 9,000 law firms, in a sector which contributes around £60bn a year to the economy. Legal services is a rapidly changing sector – the impact of AI and of high volume consumer claims are two examples of this – and there are significant opportunities and risks for consumers. The SRA will need to adapt to remain effective in a changing world. It is an exciting time.

The SRA now seeking to appoint its next Executive Director of Investigations and Enforcement, a senior lawyer of exceptional calibre who will lead its high-profile enforcement work. This is a pivotal position within the Executive Team, accountable for the performance of the Investigations, Legal and Enforcement functions, and leading a talented team of around 375 colleagues who manage over 14,000 concerns each year.

Reporting to the Chief Executive, this person will provide strategic leadership and operational delivery across complex, high-volume casework, ensuring outcomes are timely, proportionate and in the public interest.

This person will be a qualified lawyer with a track record of senior leadership, ideally in a regulatory, public service or professional environment. Their background will include substantial experience in litigation, public law, professional conduct, or organisational governance. This person will have led large, multi-disciplinary teams, delivered change in high-volume, casework-based settings, and demonstrated exceptional judgement in sensitive and high-profile matters.
