About us

The Office for Students (OfS) is the independent regulator of higher education in England. We regulate higher education on behalf of all students, ensuring that every student, regardless of their background, has a fulfilling experience that enriches their lives and careers. We have high ambitions and offer great opportunities to get involved in bringing that vision to life.

The role

As a Senior Data Analyst, you’ll:

  • Design and implement analytical workflows to extract meaning from complex datasets.

  • Use techniques including data transformation, visualisation, statistical modelling, and data science to generate insights.

  • Communicate findings clearly to technical and non-technical audiences.

  • Support the development of analytical methodologies, systems, and processes.

  • Collaborate with Analytics Engineering and the wider organisation to ensure data meets business needs and is accessible via the OfS data model.

  • Build and maintain self-service data applications for internal and external users.

  • Advocate for an evidence-led culture and contribute to enhancing the organisation’s data capability.

About you

We’re looking for someone who is:

  • Adaptable and comfortable working in a fast-paced, evolving environment.

  • A strong communicator, able to explain technical concepts to non-technical audiences.

  • Logical, analytical, and pragmatic in problem-solving.

  • Experienced in working collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders.

  • Familiar with the modern data stack and agile working practices.

Essential skills and experience:

  • Strong SQL and/or Python (or equivalent language).

  • Experience with application of artificial intelligence solutions, statistical methods, data modelling, cleansing, enrichment, and/or visualisation.

  • Knowledge of Databricks or similar platforms.

  • Understanding of GIT and version control.

  • Awareness of government DDAT capability framework for data analysts.

  • Ability to manage projects and deliver at pace.

  • Competency in communicating and influencing across diverse audiences.

Working for us

The OfS regulates the higher education sector on behalf of all students. We value diversity and the wealth of perspectives, experience and ideas that it brings to our work, and we strive to embed equality of opportunity in everything we do.

We recruit based on fair and open competition and welcome applications from candidates regardless of age, disability, race and ethnicity, gender reassignment, marriage and civil partnership, pregnancy and maternity, religion or belief, sex or sexual orientation.

At the OfS, we recognise that flexibility can enable people to work more effectively. A set of organisation-wide principles shape our approach to flexible and hybrid working, which our teams then use as guidance on how they deliver their business goals. This would usually mean working from the office for two or three days in a typical week.

To attract the widest possible field of qualified applicants, flexible working, for example job share and part time working, apply to this role.
