We are seeking passionate, committed individuals to join our Board of Directors and play a key role in guiding the strategic direction and governance of the Institute of Regulation.

The Institute of Regulation (IoR) is a membership organisation. We’re a professional network, providing training in regulation and promoting good practice in regulation. We believe good regulation is essential for a thriving economy and society. We aspire to become the home of good regulation.
Board Recruitment
The Institute of Regulation is looking to appoint up to four new board members to enhance the existing board and help us on our rapid journey to become the UK’s largest professional network in regulation, supporting a global community of regulatory professionals and experts.
We are particularly interested in prospective board members who help enrich the diversity of the existing board, we are looking to find up to two suitable candidates from the two categories below:
Category 1: regulatory expertise
Category 2: business scale up / membership organisation expertise
About the role
As a non-executive director of the board, the successful appointee will help to:
Set the Institute’s strategic aims and ensure values and standards are upheld, and its obligations to stakeholders are understood and met.
Provide governance and leadership of the Institute within a framework of effective controls.
Ensure that the necessary and effective resources are in place for the Institute to carry out its objectives.
Scrutinise the performance of management against agreed goals and objectives, and monitors the reporting of performance
Commitment
Term: 3 years
Status: Board membership is voluntary, with reasonable expenses paid.
Time: Minimum 5 days per annum
You will be expected to join six online board meetings per year, one in-person strategic session, the online AGM, our in person Annual conference and otherwise contribute occasional time and expertise to the activities of the Institute.
The business of the Institute of Regulation is managed by its directors, collectively known as board members. All board members are collectively and equally responsible for the Institute of Regulation and its staff and have legal duties and responsibilities as a director. Board members are supported by an executive director and an administration support team.

About you - Role criteria
Over 16 years of age.
Qualified to become a director of a UK organisation
A good working knowledge of or interest in regulation.
Leadership experience, with some experience of board engagement or participation.
Ability to contribute and influence across a wide agenda at board level.
A willingness to appropriately speak their mind, to support, challenge and be a critical and constructive friend.
Commitment to attending Board meetings, AGM, and Annual conference
A commitment to promote equality and diversity
A working background, skillset and experience in one or more of the following areas:
Regulation
Business scale-up / membership organisation
