Background

CRL is the independent regulator, under the Legal Services Act 2007, of Chartered Legal Executives and other CILEX members, CILEX Authorised Entities and non-members with Practice Rights in the legal sector. We set and maintain standards in legal education, and in the work and services provided by the individuals and firms we regulate, which continues to expand beyond the original sole purpose of legal executives.

Our regulation is proportionate, outcomes-focused and risk-based. This allows the people and firms we regulate to take their own approach to delivering legal services in the way they think best, provided that this is in the interests of their clients and the public.

We are currently recruiting four lay and five professional members to act as panellists on the Professional Conduct Panel, Disciplinary Tribunal and Appeals Panel set up in accordance with its Enforcement Rules.

We are looking for candidates who have an interest in professional regulation. You will be involved in deciding on cases involving professional misconduct and concerns relating to character and suitability. You will need to demonstrate that you are able to work with diverse teams to work through complex information to reach evidenced based conclusions. You should have a genuine interest in upholding high standards and a willingness or an interest protecting the rights of consumers.

The majority of our hearings are held remotely and/or determined on the documents. You may also be required to attend in-person hearings, periodic meetings, briefing sessions and training events, which will be primarily held online but on occasion also in person.
