Tynwald Auditor General (Audit Vannin)

Salary: £53,000 - £69,000 with membership of the Unified Pension Scheme or £61,000 - £79,500 without membership of the Unified Pension Scheme.

Contract type: Full time - Time commitment: 0.5 FTE/average 2.5 days per week

Location: Isle of Man/hybrid working arrangement

The Isle of Man is a self-governing dependency of the British Crown located at the centre of the British Isles, with a population of 84,800. Tynwald is the parliament of the Isle of Man.

Further to the appointment in 2023 of Tynwald’s first Auditor General, we are now looking for an Assistant Auditor General to play a key supporting role in establishing Tynwald’s first public audit office, Audit Vannin. Our vision is for a respected, valued, impactful, resilient and effective public audit function.

In this role, you will work closely with the Auditor General to help champion value for money and ensure robust, independent and high-quality financial audit that supports effective scrutiny and transparency of public service spending. You will do this through shaping the office and developing and delivering a comprehensive audit programme that provides fair and balanced evidence of organisational performance. Together you will lay important foundations for the future, supporting the development of an open and effective audit culture across the Island’s public sector, as services are required for the first time to support and respond to a supreme audit institution.

As Assistant Tynwald Auditor General, the currency of your financial and performance audit experience will help you to establish a strong standing across the Island’s public service landscape, enabling you to adapt to a broad remit in a small jurisdiction. Notwithstanding your professional credentials, you will possess a strong and broad understanding of the public sector, its challenges and opportunities, and strong relationship building capability that will elicit strong performance from our partners, and respect from our stakeholders. Last but not least, you will bring intellectual curiosity and an appropriately inquisitive approach, enabling you to push boundaries and provide important checks and balance in all aspects of our work.

We’re excited about Audit Vannin’s potential impact. If you are equally inspired by our important remit, we look forward to hearing from you.
