Quarterly Member Forum: GenAI adoption in UK regulators (16.01.2026 | Online)
During the first Quarterly Member Forum of 2026, Rob Holtom (Executive Director - Digital, Data and Technology and Customer Experience, Information Commissioner’s Office) joined us to share the key findings from his academic research study into GenAI adoption in UK regulators.

Regulatory Roundtable: AI Social Readiness (28.01.2026 | London)
On 28 January, the Institute and NESTA’s Centre for Collective Intelligence hosted an in-person breakfast session in central London on AI Assurance. Regulators joined a panel to discuss public sector AI tools and how the public perceives them, including in regulatory contexts. The Centre also presented findings from a pilot study where the UK public assessed the "social readiness" of two tools designed for analysing public consultations and supporting social workers’ note-taking.

Freedom of Information (FOI) and Artificial Intelligence | ICO: The ICO regulates the Freedom of Information Act, and the Environmental Information Regulations in England, Wales and Northern Ireland. In response to information rights practitioners’ concerns about the impact of AI-generated FOI requests, the ICO has published guidance on AI and FOI. It foregrounds the ICO's position that current legislation can cope with developments in technology. It discusses problems caused by AI use, provides boilerplate text public authorities can share with requesters to help avoid common pitfalls with AI-generated information requests, and also suggests potential future benefits of AI.
