Independent Panel Members

Financial Services Consumer Panel at the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA)

Location: National

£15,000 per annum

Time commitment c. 35 days per annum

The purpose of the Financial Services Consumer Panel (the Panel) is to provide an independent consumer perspective primarily for the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA), but also on the conduct of financial services more generally. Its vision is to make markets work well for consumers and for consumers to be protected from harm, by developing and implementing financial services policy and regulation. These Panel member appointments are critical to ensure the voice of the consumer is heard for individual consumers, SMEs and microbusinesses across all of society, especially those with vulnerable characteristics.

This is an exciting time to join the Panel and contribute to decision-making and regulatory outcomes that have significant real-world impacts on consumers. Successful candidates will bring knowledge and experience of representing the interests of consumers from across society, together with a sound understanding of the impact of FCA policy and regulation on financial services and, by extension, on consumers.  A strong commitment to reflecting the diversity of consumers’ lives is essential, as is the ability to quickly grasp a wide range of complex financial services issues.

You will have the gravitas to communicate effectively with FCA and other stakeholders at all levels, including at Board and Executive Committee level and will have a track record of providing advice and delivering constructive challenge on a broad range of issues. Strong personal values and principles, which align with those of the FCA, and an unwavering commitment to equality, diversity and inclusion will underpin the skills and attributes needed for this role.

Panel meetings will take place virtually or in person, with members expected to attend a limited number of in-person Panel meetings during the year at the FCA’s offices in Stratford. Appointments are made by the FCA Board, usually for a term of three years. Successful candidates should expect to commit around 35 days per annum and will be eligible for a fee of £15,000 per annum.

Disability Confident Scheme: As part of the disability confident scheme, the FCA guarantees to interview all disabled applicants who meet the minimum criteria.
