The Professional Regulation and Standards Compliance Board (PRSC) is responsible for overseeing all regulatory and standards-related functions at AAT. Operating independently, the PRSC ensures that our professional standards and regulatory decisions relating to our members and licensed members are impartial, robust, and aligned with the public interest.
The PRSC holds AAT to account for its duties as a supervisory and regulatory body. We are now seeking to appoint two new members to the PRSC Board:
• One Lay Member, bringing external, independent insight from outside the accounting profession.
• One AAT Member, offering practical experience and perspective from within AAT’s membership.
These roles will contribute to the strategic oversight of AAT’s professional standards, regulatory compliance, and supervisory responsibilities, including Anti-Money Laundering (AML) supervision.
While not a definitive list, AAT has identified the following areas of experience/interest which members may be engaged with:
• Professional conduct and disciplinary matters
• Professional body development and regulation
• Practice licensing
• Professional practice quality assurance (including CPD)
• Membership category development
• Anti-Money Laundering
• Professional ethics
The Role
Key Responsibilities
• Provide independent scrutiny and challenge on regulatory matters, upholding the integrity and independence of the PRSC.
• Contribute to the development of regulatory strategy and policy.
• Ensure regulatory decisions are fair, proportionate, and reflect the public interest.
• Monitor AAT’s performance as a supervisory authority under the Money Laundering Regulations.
• Maintain awareness of external developments in professional standards and regulation.
• Attend and actively participate in PRSC Board meetings (approximately four per year), as well as ad hoc activity where relevant.
Person Specification
Lay Member
• Demonstrates independence of thought.
• Strong track record of governance, regulation, anti-money laundering or public service.
• Understanding of professional regulation or ethical standards desirable.
• Commitment to upholding public interest and consumer protection.
AAT Member
• A current full AAT member (MAAT or FMAAT) in good standing.
• Demonstrates strong ethical judgement and commitment to professional standards.
• Experience in regulated environments or disciplinary/oversight functions is desirable.
• Clear understanding of the challenges and responsibilities faced by AAT members in practice.
Key terms
• Meetings take place four times per year, with one in person at the AAT offices and three online.
• Positions are not remunerated, and all reasonable expenses will be reimbursed in accordance with the Expenses Policy.
• Terms of Office will be three years with the option to be re-appointed for a second term.
