Chair of the Board

Employed by: The Property Ombudsman
Job Title: Chair of the Board
Salary or salary range: £27,275
Contract type: Part-time
Location of position: Meetings are held in London or virtually
Application deadline: 8th of January
The Property Ombudsman scheme has been providing consumers and property agents with an alternative dispute resolution service since 1990.
But we also have another important role; to raise standards in the property industry through the identification of systemic issues and themes. This capability enables us to influence government policy on behalf of consumers, and we welcome new legislation and the clarity it will offer to consumers and agents.
As our new Chair, you will provide overview, challenge, and scrutiny of the operational delivery of the ombudsman's service, both at Board and in regular meetings with the CEO / Chief Ombudsman, and in working with the CEO to ensure that the strategic objectives are met.
Change and improvement will be key themes. We know that consumers’ awareness of their rights is already on the increase, and we expect this trend to continue as new legislation lands. In readiness, we must continue to pursue strong business performance in all its forms; transforming to maximise our impact, pursuing sector leading capability, and operating with maximum efficiency. We must also maintain a strong and coherent voice in our own right, influencing and securing the cooperation of a broad range of stakeholders, and maximising access to those who need us.
You will join us then at an important time, both for us, our partners, and most importantly, for consumers and agents, and we expect our Board’s agenda to be rich and diverse.
As Chair of The Property Ombudsman, you will provide leadership and guidance to the Board, as well as strategic insight, expert advice and oversight based on your knowledge and experience, ideally gained in a public service/regulatory, and/or property related context.
We are looking for an ambassador of The Property Ombudsman who will help us to raise awareness of the Scheme, developing and maintaining high-level relations with our key stakeholders, including those influencing the shape of the property redress landscape, to drive forward our strategic objectives.
An experienced Chair, you will have led a commensurate organisation through a period of change, ideally in response to external events/change and internal ambitions for excellence. To this end, you will have a track record of supporting innovation and continuous improvement.
Regardless of background, we must appoint a financially astute and commercial leader of the utmost integrity. Politically credible, influential, and moderate with outstanding leadership and ED&I credentials, you will be adept at supporting and challenging colleagues in equal measure to deliver outstanding results.
We are an influential, small, and friendly organisation and this is an exciting time to join us with a real opportunity to support our organisation through the next stage of our development. If our mission resonates, and you think your experience and qualities will help accelerate our progress, we look forward to hearing from you.
