We, the Legal Services Board (LSB), are looking for an exceptional leader to chair the independent Office for Legal Complaints (OLC) at a pivotal time for the organisation.

With a focus on modernisation and transformation, the new Chair will be instrumental in ensuring consumer complaints about regulated lawyers and law firms in England and Wales are resolved in a timely and effective manner.

Are you the inspiring, innovative leader we seek?

About the organisations

The LSB oversees the regulation of legal services across England and Wales. As part of this, we oversee the OLC.

The OLC runs the Legal Ombudsman. It investigates complaints and can order compensation or other remedies when things go wrong. This impartial resolution service ensures access to justice and raises standards within the profession.

The role

The OLC plays a crucial role in protecting consumers, resolving disputes fairly, and maintaining confidence in the legal sector – work we are committed to supporting through effective oversight.

You will work with us, the Ministry of Justice, and other key partners to set the OLC’s strategic direction, ensure the OLC meets its statutory duties and maintains the highest standards. You will be comfortable working with senior people across government, regulators, and the legal profession. You will help shape policy and important decisions at the highest levels.

In addition to overseeing the OLC’s strategic and financial performance, you will represent the organisation publicly and promote its role in making legal services fair and accessible to all.

What we’re looking for

We are looking for a candidate with substantial experience leading complex organisations through transformational change, ensuring operational excellence while maintaining high levels of public trust and confidence.

You will demonstrate the ability to challenge and support an executive team, embed best practices, and foster a culture of continuous improvement.

Your deep understanding of governance, financial oversight, and regulatory frameworks will also be essential for success in this role. You should champion diversity, openness, and accountability in everything you do, bringing a forward-thinking approach to leadership.
