The Independent Office for Police Conduct is the police complaints watchdog that oversees the police complaints system in England and Wales. We investigate the most   serious matters, including deaths following police contact and we set the standards by which the police should handle complaints. We are independent, which means that our decisions are made entirely independently of the police and government. Our vision is for everyone to be able to have trust and confidence in policing. The IOPC is on a journey to develop its culture, perspectives, and ethos to support the organisation’s core outcomes.

Following a restructure of the organisation and the appointment of the new Deputy Director General for Investigations & Oversight we are now looking to appoint a Director for Investigations. The appointed candidate will be welcomed into a dynamic and inclusive senior management team and have responsibility for the leadership of the newly reformed Investigations function.

The Director for Investigations will lead the reformation of a new national investigations team, contribute to the design, and lead the implementation of a new operating model, manage teams, resources, and budgets to a high standard within the legislative framework and ensure effective decision making in   critical cases. They will be the strategic operational lead for critical incidents and lead on the IOPC investigative strategy and delivery. The successful candidate will represent the IOPC publicly in the media and work alongside the Directors of Engagement to ensure one IOPC voice and a seamless stakeholder experience.
